Arpita's Wedding Present, With Love From Shah Rukh and Salman Khan

Bride-to-be Arpita Khan, youngest sister of superstar Salman, had a VVIP guest at her mehendi-sangeet ceremony yesterday. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman's frenemy and co-star of several films, showed up and this Karan Arjun moment happened, tweeted by Salman's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri:

Arpita's wedding is expected to be the scene of one of the most hotly anticipated filmy reunions. Salman and Shah Rukh have been at war since a very public falling out at actress Katrina Kaif's birthday party in 2008 and, despite being photographed exchanging hugs at politician Baba Siddique's iftaar party two years in a row, have not so far mended a once-warm friendship.

That may change now - indeed, it looks like it already has - after Salman personally visited SRK to invite him to Arpita's wedding celebrations. SRK, in turn, told the press that he didn't need an invite to attend the nuptials, having known Arpita from babyhood.

Salman and SRK - with Aamir - make up the trinity of Khans that have ruled the Bollywood box office for nearly three decades.

Arpita, who is marrying politician Anil Sharma's son Aayush in Hyderabad on November 18, was photographed surrounded by a bunch of friends and family - including elders sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri - at Sunday's celebrations that were held at the Khan family home in Mumbai, Galaxy Apartments.

New Volvo XC90's Interior Air Quality System to Be Helpful For Asthma Patients

Volvo Cars, known for making one of the safest vehicles in the world, is now working on tending better to the well-being and health of its passengers. The company has introduced a larger and more efficient multi-filter, CleanZone, in the cabin. Volvo says CleanZone keeps even the most microscopic, and hazardous fine dust particles from entering the car.
The multi-filter was designed especially for the SPA platform on which the all-new XC90 is built. "It features a larger design that intercepts more particulates and pollen, as well as layer of active charcoal that effectively removes a host of contaminants that can impact the health of drivers," says the company. Just so you know, the car is likely to make its Indian debut early next year. The current-gen XC90 retails at about Rs. 56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and we expect the new-gen model to be slightly more expensive than the outgoing model.

The company further says that in a car equipped with the new improved multi-filter, the amount of 'fine dust' particles smaller than 0.4 micrometre can be as much as 70% less than in a car without the filter. This is considered to be a significant improvement as several studies have shown that dust particles smaller than 10 micrometre can be the reason for a number of health problems including difficulty in breathing and lung infections.
"Up to 45 per cent of the industrialised world's population is now suffering from some form of allergy or hypersensitivity. Over ten per cent has asthma. At Volvo, our commitment to safety goes well beyond safety belts and air bags. It's about making sure that every minute you and your family spend in a Volvo is as safe as it can possibly be. That includes breathing," says Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development. "With this filter we are now at the forefront of the industry in terms of particle separation."

Other than the new multi air-filter, Volvo's Interior Air Quality System (IAQS) also has a sensor that monitors the incoming air for noxious substances. If at any time the level of harmful substances is too high, the car's air intakes are shut automatically. Volvo claims that both, the multi-filter and the sensor, keep out several harmful and irritating pollutants such as Nitrogen oxides, Hydrocarbons, Ground-level ozone, Gases and unpleasant odours etc.

New Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs BMW 3 Series vs Audi A4

ALL-NEW C-CLASS

The last C-Class came out in 2007 - yes seven years ago! So when the W205 first broke cover, it was naturally like a breath of fresh air. It was in May that we brought you our comprehensive review of the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. At the time I was impressed with the sheer leap Mercedes-Benz has managed to take with it.
The new C-Class is lighter, lither and more agile. Its also modern, beautiful and yes - it is indeed the Baby S-Class - as its been popularly called all year long. Now it's set for launch in India - which has been pulled ahead from what we initially thought would be January at the earliest. Mercedes-Benz is launching only the C200 petrol variant for starters.

The cars will be imported, but pricing takes into account local assembly, which begins around February next year. That is also when the diesel C220 will join the C200.
C-CLASS VERSUS 3 SERIES & A4

So now that I have the car here, it was only fitting to pit it against its immediate rivals. Yes the segment has been the traditional battleground of the German foes for long - not just here, but globally - the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and of course the C-Class.

LOOKS TO KILL
Now the first thing you notice is that the C-Class looks really new. The A4 still holds its own since Audi defined 'pretty' in this segment long ago, but it looks admittedly sober now. The 3 Series screams sporty and the C-Class does run away with the pageant crown for its sharp character lines, sloping roofline and boot-lid, and the bold face with the organic looking lights.
ON THE ROAD
We are not testing like-engines here, but rather comparing drive dynamics and overall proposition. Now in this particular segment when it comes to sporty appeal and precise direct driving, the BMW 3 Series has always been the one to lead. And while this is the C-Class that's come closest, BMW manages to hold on to the crown. The 3 Series' handling is superb, with extra precision and great steering. The C-Class follows and the Audi, while accurate is soft and offers more of a comfort-oriented feel, than a dynamic one. I suspect that will change when the next generation A4 arrives next year.
But given that in India, a lot of buyers will prefer to sit in the rear, and that the car does fairly well on bad surfaces or through potholes, the balanced ride feel on the C may appeal the most. Though the weirdest thing - I wish the steering was smidgen larger, as it feels small by comparison to the other two.
The C-Class is also lighter than its predecessor by 100 kgs thanks to a 39% increase in the use of aluminium in the car's structure. And that does make the car a lot stiffer. Yes the 3 Series remains the out-and-out drivers' car, but the C is very satisfying to drive now too, especially if you flick the Agility setting to Sport or Sport+. The 7-speed gearbox is also smooth, but there are slight delays on downshifts in Sport+ mode.
CABIN, COMFORT AND CONVENIENCES
The Baby S tag means the interiors have to be super-swanky and you won't be disappointed. The C-Class being launched has a plethora of high-end equipment including a Burmester sound system, with 13 speakers, panoramic sunroof, high-grade leather and wood inserts. I am not sure all of that will make it to the locally assembled version though.
It's a bit of an opulent feel you get in this car, with great material quality. The new updated Command infotainment system is easier to use, and comes with a touch pad and has in-built navigation too. The car's cabin exudes a sense of space which the last C-Class lacked, The seats are comfortable and like the S-Class the C too now boasts ambient lighting options though in just 3 colours - amber, white and blue.
By comparison the 3 Series and A4 look drab, though material quality and fit is good. The BMW has the edge over the A4 on being more contemporary, Now given that the 3 Series is the driver's car of the pack, it's no surprise that it's also got the best driving position. You can really adjust the steering and seating to get it just right. Throw in the M performance package with sports seats and you've really got it made.
The A4 is nearing the end of its life cycle too now, and so yes is dated, but the MMI or multi-media interface is actually the most intuitive and easy to use of the three brands.
SHOOTOUT VERDICT
Prices for the new C are expected to hover in the Rs. 32-38 lakh range. It does emerge as the winner in this contest, but with the caveat that I cannot give it an absolute win as yet. We are still waiting on the prices, and the whole strategy form Mercedes-Benz on how many variants we will eventually have - what their local content will be, and the trims/features to be offered eventually. But having said that, the car will probably get a nice clean run because others cars like the Jaguar XE and the next generation of the Audi A4, won't arrive till the end of next year, or in early 2016.

New Ford Endeavour Officially Revealed; India Launch Next Year

Ford has officially revealed the production version of the 2015 Endeavour aka Everest. Expected to go on sale in 2015, the new-gen Endeavour will be rolled out in several markets including China, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and India.
The new-gen model was first showcased as the 'Everest concept' in Sydney, Australia in 2013, followed by its unveiling at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show. The production-ready model of the car looks exactly similar to the concept, save for the new alloy wheels.

Based on Ford's Edge design philosophy, the new-gen Endeavour is expected to be more upmarket than its predecessor. In order to enhance its off-roading capabilities, the company has developed it on a new ladder frame chassis. What will add more to its drivability is the inclusion of a new independent coil-spring layout at the rear instead of the leaf spring setup found in the current model. What's also new is the 'Terrano Response' four wheel drive system that adjusts traction control, engine torque, four-wheel drive system and other components that will help it delver better off-road performance.
The cabin of the new-gen model is likely to be inspired by Ford's F-105 pickup truck. Just like the F-105, it will have Ford's SYNC2 multimedia setup and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Globally, Ford will launch the 2015 Endeavour in two engine options - a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel and a 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel engine. That said, the Indian model will get the existing 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel units. To enhance its fuel efficiency and cruising performance, Ford might replace the existing 5-speed manual and automatic gearboxes with a 6-speed transmission.
The new-gen model is expected to come in the price bracket of Rs. 20 - Rs. 25 lakh in India.

Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA Update Rollout Begins for Google Nexus 4

As promised in its last Wednesday's announcement, Google has started rolling out its recently unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system to LG-made Nexus 4 handsets.
After the initial posting of factory images images by Google last week, the company by the weekend posted the Android 5.0 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 4 on its developer website, and then over the weekend was reported by users to have started rolling out the update over-the-air (OTA).
As seen in a couple of images (above) posted by users on a Reddit thread, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update weighs 394.4MB and users are being told to ensure the handset has more than 50 percent battery charge along with a 500MB of space free before starting the installation process. Also, the update is being rolled out in a staggered manner, so it may take a while for it to reach all regions. It is worth noting that the latest Android version appears not to be rolling out yet to Indian Nexus 5 models.

Google last week announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update for older Nexus devices (namely, the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), and Nexus 10). Following Google closely, Motorola also officially announced the OTA rollout of the latest Android update for its second-generation Moto G and Moto X smartphones.
In addition, Android 5.0 Lollipop MR1 (which may become Android 5.1 Lollipop) was recently spotted running on a Nexus 5 handset during a Devoxx conference in Belgium. It is speculated that Android 5.1 will not include very many new features or changes.

How to Remove WhatsApp Blue Ticks aka Read Receipts

Much to the chagrin of its users, WhatsApp quietly introduced read receipts (letting people see exactly when a message is read, not just delivered) earlier this month. The app always showed one tick mark when you sent a message, which changed to two grey ticks when it was delivered. Now, the app shows two blue ticks when the recipient has read your message

This feature was rolled out without an update to the app itself. This means that there was no privacy setting to disable read receipts when the feature was rolled out. The lack of this basic feature in WhatsApp really ticked us off, and we had promised that we'd be back with a tutorial on how to disable WhatsApp blue ticks as soon as it was possible. True to our word, here we are now that WhatsApp has unveiled this feature for Android.
Here's how to get rid of those annoying blue ticks in WhatsApp - but if you do this, then you won't be able to see the receipts either. If you want to check when other people see your messages, then you need to allow them to see read receipts from you. For now, this is only possible for Android users, and only if you manually update the app via the WhatsApp website. WhatsApp typically releases updates first via its website, and then rolls out the update for Android's Google Play store, followed by updates for other platforms, so the update will be available for all devices soon.
The first step is to get the latest APK file from WhatsApp:
  1. Download the latest (version 2.11.444) WhatsApp apk from the official website.
  2. On your Android phone, go to Settings > Security > Check Unknown sources, to enable installing apps from outside Google Play. Note that the exact path to the setting can vary depending on your device manufacturer and Android version - the important thing to note is that you enable installing apps from unknown sources.
  3. Open the apk on your Android phone. This will install the latest version of the app on your device.

Once the app is installed, here's how to disable read receipts:
  1. Open WhatsApp and tap three vertical dots icon on the top right.
  2. Now go to Settings > Account > Privacy.
  3. Uncheck Read receipts.

That will disable the blue ticks on WhatsApp. As we noted above, feature isn't available on other platforms or on Google Play as yet, but now that this feature has appeared on the official WhatsApp apk, we can hope that an update will bring it to all platforms. We will update this article when that happens. Until then, you can head to our How To section for more tutorials.
